Food and Medicinal Uses:
Xwókw'eltel is a numbing medicine, and was used to treat toothaches.
It is also a diuretic, astringent, and antimicrobial.
It is used as an eye wash, and treatment for stomach pain and indigestion, diarrhea, dysentery, stomach ulcers, coughs, sore throat, rheumatism, and menstrual disorders.
Also made into a wash to remove spots, freckles and "eruptions" from skin.
Was considered to be a contraceptive.
